I like this series, (taken from Poets United, so I've decided to write two more additional poems based on this topic. This is the first poem).
I don't know what you see
when you look at me
but in my eyes,
I am...
A girl
who is not yet a woman
shy, awkward,
and sometimes afraid
but I try to play it cool anyway.
I stray away
from anything
or anyone
that looks as if they'll do me harm.
Through these eyes,
I wish I could be
a better me.
What do you see when you look at me?
Why should I care?
What do I see when I look at me?
Aah.. now we're getting somewhere
~Take the best version of yourself and portray that to the world~...
Because sometimes you gotta fake it till you make it..
The second to last line is an excellent question that we all need to ask ourselves. Well written!
ReplyDeleteyou have a fresh style - keep writing!
ReplyDeleteLovely write. This I've found too (sometimes we get older and wiser :) ):
ReplyDeleteWhat do I see when I look at me?
Love your last line especially.......this poem reminds me of when I was young. What I wish someone had told that young me is: Just Be You - You Are Enough, and more than enough. Took me way too long to realize that. I enjoy your style of writing and look forward to reading more of your work.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. I appreciate all of your feedback. I'll be sure to check out your poems as well :)
